Weekend in court

I spent my last weekend in court. Although it was a bit stuffy and warm, it helped me to release my stress. I am referring to my badminton game.

The last time I participated in a badminton competition was in my university, IIU. I would not forget the experience because I had a tudung covering my head during the game. Also, I was the 1st runner up in a game of 3 participants (single).

This time, I ended participating in this game because I think my body need some exercise. The Chairwoman of the Hainan Association, Ipoh called me up and asked if I am interested to join. I was thinking, why not? The competition was only opened to Hainanese clan. I did not know what game I would be playing until I reached the court. A single and a mixed double.

When I saw my opponent walking towards the court carrying a yellow yonex racket beg, I knew it would not be an easy game for me. I was told she is from Cameron Highlands. It was obvious that she must be a good and frequent player, if not, she would not have travelled the distance to participate in the competition. The game started and the result was 2-15 and 0-15. I brought home an “egg”.

Later, in the mixed double, I had a partner who could play very well. However,I picked the shuttle more often than hitting it. We lost in one of the games.

Winning is not everything in a game. It is the spirit. I had a good time, although my bones are aching now. I got the opportunity to meet my clan members (hainanese) who are from different parts of Perak. Besides that, there were games where the younger hainanese played against the more senior hainanese. A team of father and son also participated.

It was a great court where some Hainanese could gather to get to know each other better and narrow the generation gap.

Thank you to Ah Pang, my partner in the mixed double whom I just got to know him in the court, minutes before the game starts. Without his running all around the court, I would not be able to get a new pair of sport shoes, stockins and a medal. We were in 2nd place, 3-15 and 9-15. Here are the prizes ==>

  2. I now know of another MP who is a badminton enthusiast. Keep it up and enjoy the game. Winning or losing doesn’t make you better or worse. You look extremely fit.

  3. Glad you are not boasting your golf handicaps and rubbing shoulders with all the high and mighty at the clubs with big egos wasting their time to do something worthwhile for others.
