Good or Bad News from Petronas?

I received a fax dated 13.12.2005 from Petronas. It was stated the following:-

“Kami akan membawa perkara ini kepada pengetahuan kontraktor utama berkenaan dan akan menasihatkan kontraktor tersebut untuk menyelesaikan tuntutan yang belum dibayar.”

One of the suppliers called me two days again and asked me about the progress of the matter. I have informed her to give another two weeks to Petronas to deal with it.

I do hope the move to be taken by Petronas, as stated in the said letter, “bringing it to the knowledge of the main contractor and advising the contractor to settle the outstanding claims, would help the 2 suppliers and 22 subcontractors.

Do you think that these irresponsible main contractor or subcontractors were so poor in keeping their accounts and require such a reminder and advice from Petronas? I was told that these suppliers and subcontractors had been searching high and low, walking in and out of the office to demand for payment. It was when they failed and could not find any positive reply, they decided to come to get assistance from DAP. As I have said earlier, the news about the meeting with Petronas officer at Petronas Tower had reached over 22 subcontractors and all decided to attend the meeting together by chartering a bus from Perak.

Thank you Petronas, for agreeing to advice the contractor to settle the outstanding claim but, to avoid a reoccurring of such complaint that would certainly damage the good name of Petronas and the government, the policy of appointment of main contractors need to be reviewed and also the terms of contract.

Petronas need to black list these main contractors who were negligent and failed to appoint responsible subcontractors to carry out the community projects for Petronas. I would like to repeat again, the unpaid suppliers and subcontractors were the one who had completed most of the work for Petronas. They were not paid, a total of RM 1.2 million!

  1. I think we must always look at the good thing out of something … Definitely rather than ignoring the 22 contractors plea, PETRONAS is engaging the main contractor.

But, I agree that is not enough. PETRONAS should do more. THe main contractor should be hauled up and questioned? It should be blacklisted. Probably, PETRONAS is doing that.

What irks me though is that the name of the main contractor is still mysterious. Be it the government or the opposition or the media, they are always trying to cover up these matters… If this ‘name witholding’ habit is because of fear of legal complicity, I think what is being done all these while is for public interest .. as the champion of the people, surely a litigation is a small thing to pay for being elected…

    Name it here, I say!!!!

  2. diversion :

This case has far reaching implications on the non Muslims in this country. It set precedence for other similar cases that yet to come.

How about foul play? If before your death, you have offended a Muslim and he wanted to get back to you when you are dead or because you are rich, someone wanted to share your assets.
It seems anyone cans ask the Syariah Court to declare you as a Muslim without any supporting documents, just verbal or perhaps by swearing with the Qur’an will do. Once you are dead, someone can appear in front of you family with the Syariah’s judgment to declare the dead person as a Muslim.

What will happen to your next of kin, your wife (or your husband) and your children? Since you are declared as a Muslim, will that automatically mean they too will be turned into Muslim overnight? How about the assets that you leave behind, will your next of kin get it if they are not Muslim?

What sort of legal protection for the non Muslims in this country? Practically we are at the whim and fancy of the Syariah’s Court since the High Court is powerless. This case really has far reaching implications on the non Muslims and opened up many questions. These questions will make you shivering down your spine if you think of it.

  3. I think usually there’a a legal document from PERKIM to state that the person has embraced Islam. The syarian court cannot make decision based on hearsay.
