Pak Lah, investigate from “You Know Who” practice

Here goes the same stories. Who is to be blamed for the collapsed ceilings of RM 270 million new court building? The same old lines, investigations and reports need to be submitted.

Either the contractor will be held responsible or be blacklisted.

The PM has called for a check on all buildings. “I feel ashamed. These are new buildings and there are problems. There must be something wrong,” he said.

PM also said it was important to establish the reasons for what had
happened in the three buildings.

“We don’t know if this is because the contractor did not do the work
properly, was careless, or the buildings were poorly designed.
“If it is the same contractor, there will be specific reasons and we
will be able to take action.”
The prime minister emphasised that maintenance had to be carried out
continuously… (NST 1.5.07)

I am no expert in the field of construction. Pak Lah, feeling embarrassed and ashamed would not solve the problems. He must realised that the root cause of his headaches were due to his office internal administration.

It should not be the contractor alone to be held responsible for the defects and shoddy work. What about those civil servants who were involved in tender process and approving the contracts for the said contractor? What about those civil servants who approved the design plan? What about those civil servants who approved the certificate of fitness to the said buildings and?

Isn’t the administration should be having teams of expert and most qualified working for government? Why is it most of the time they are so poor in getting the right contractor to do the job?

We all know, most of the time, it is through political connections or ” who you know” and not “what you know” that some of these contractors obtained government projects. Then, it will be “sub and sub and sub”. End result -abandoned projects, delayed projects, poor workmanship, unpaid workers/contractors, collapsed ceilings and burst pipes.

I am equally worried for the safety of the civil servants and public in such buildings. Not necessary that lucky all the time!

Pak Lah, start the investigation from your internal administrations. Review your policies in awarding contracts. The top officers should be held responsible when such incidents occured. Then, they will be careful in carrying out their public duties and responsibilities.

  2. Why worry? Most people working in these buildings are from BN. If ceiling collapse on them and happen than an MP dies, another part of Malaysia is going to have new roads, new halls, new developments … every dark cloud has a silver lining.

  3. Well, not an abnormal sight these days. Examples of abandoned building and projects in Klang - Southern Park Field and the half-build building in Bukit Raja next to Jaya Jusco Shopping Complex at Bukit Raja. A very ugly sight for many years those living in Klang.

  4. You should call upon bloggers(not from a party’s perspective) to condemn the two BN MPs after the berating incident at Parliament. I have, see below for the link.

The least that he could do is resign immediately!
    But he didn’t?
Perhaps the pickings are too good!

  9. The biggest bocor now is the loss of integrity, intelligence, sense of fairness and efficiency in the Malaysian talent pool and this is clearly reflected in the dismal conditions of the administrative capital of Malaysia.

Only with the extreme short sightness of those in the august house can so casually dismiss the consequence of the recent cases. It maybe less significant if a rural house may topple due to shoddy workmanship but in Putrajaya?

Mark my words, a major man-made tragedy is waiting to happen, if such callous attitude persists. As much fault as one can find with Mahathir, he never let shoddy workmanship got into major construction projects of his. Imagine if the Twin Towers are leaking?

  10. and Dear Miss Fong,

sorry for the bar jokes remarks targeted at you. You have the support of many, including yours truly.

Hornestly, this is no joking manner. If due to timing differences, the 2 esteemed gentlemen may either be borned as they are or ended up as “bocor” many years ago.

Be proud of bocor as it is the source of life.

  11. Dear YB Fong,

I hope DAP will be more proactive. DAP should go to the field to stamp their mark on society.

Currently, people think that DAP is just talk, no action. I hope DAP can change this image and be more actively involved in serving the community.

I am not condemning DAP. I just want DAP to make clear to community of its purpose.

I, for one, definitely want to see DAP beat and kick BN. I have never supported BN in my life.

There are many issues which DAP can use to their advantage.

Especially the ones involving the two stupid BN-UMNO animals who make brainless remarks against YB Fong.

    Forward DAP !!!

  12. The greatest bocor is Malaysia’s coffer. All tax money goes to nothing for the poor designs and bad workmanship without proper supervision while rent collectors, irresponsible ministers, contractors, architects, engineers, consultant engineers etc happily make their runs to the bank.

We all know that this state of affairs did not only happen yesterday. Former PM Dr Mahathir is much to be blamed for all the mess - collapsed ceilings, bocor pipes etc

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must sees fit that all those responsible for the poor designs and construction be answerable and take full responsibility to rectify the mistakes. No one should escape the net!

  13. The joke below is dedicated to ALL the contractors in Malaysia & Samy Vellu :-

A couple hired a repairman to fix a hole in their roof, and went to stay with some friends for the week the job would take.

A week later, in the midst of a torrential rainstorm, the couple returned. “You fool!” shouted the husband as he discovered the workman sitting in the living room on a soaked couch in two inches of water. “What the hell are you sitting here for? Get up there and fix the leak in that roof!”

“I can’t,” the workman responded. “It’s raining cats and dogs out there.”

“Then why didn’t you repair it when the sun was out?”

“Don’t be silly,” the workman answered, “the roof wasn’t leaking then.”

  14. Dear YB

It is very unfortunate that the sexist remarks has been targetted at you. But think on the brighter’s side, these 2 clowns has ran out of excuse thus have to make a fool of themselves by giving a reply that even a standard one student won’t. Now that this event has now being posted in Youtube, the whole world can see. This is the problem when normal citizens do not know how to vote according to the quality of the candidate but by merely a few 10 bucks for dacing!
