Thank you, Voters of Batu Gajah Parliamentary Constituency
Time really flies. The second term as elected representative of Batu Gajah has just ended. It was a term with lots of ups and downs. What a challenge and experience in life!
Dear voters of Batu Gajah Parliamentary constituency, thank you so much for all the support which you have given to me and DAP. I would also like to apologise if I have done or said anything which hurt you during this two terms as your elected representative.
The power is now returned to the people. Let us deny Barisan Nasional 2/3 majority for a better Malaysia for all Malaysians. Please vote for DAP!

YB Fong,
The way you write looks like you are not running in this coming GE?
Please don’t tell me that you are not defending your BG seat.

YB,
Though i don’t vote at Batu Gajah (I vote in Sibu, Sarawak), but i do think you stand the best chance to win the Batu Gajah seat. If possible, do rationalize with the party leaders about this, for the benefit of all. Worst come to worst still, i hope you may contest in other constituencies in the country if not contesting in Batu Gajah. I think people in other places will also support you. Don’t be disheartened. Most important is to look at the big picture (the national benefit).

A penny for your thought in the chamber. Please put more thoughts in writing as we are unable to read your mind.
Jokes aside, it was a pleasure working as election agent in the last election and I am volunteering again should you need my service.
We need more volunteers to help ensure everything goes on according to the election rules and regulations.
As Khairy said, DAP lacks appeal (no chance to enrich mah), so we should try and prove him wrong by lifting DAP to record success this time.
With the advantage of mainstream media and use of government machinery by BN, we should help the disadvantaged by voting the opposition. Just remind ourselves that the first stack of votes are just to level the playing field caused by unfair gerrymandering, before we start to have a fair contest.
Comment by K S Ong — February 14, 2008 @ 10:56 pm
We are always behind DAP.
We will vote the out the’THIEVES’.
We will dump the Scoundrels.
Who is in the right frame of mind will vote the ‘ROBBERS’???
Comment by CT Ong — February 15, 2008 @ 12:06 am
YB,
Please defend your BG seat. It will be very disappointing if you dont.
Thank you for your recent help & attention for solving my problem with an investment company and Bank Negara. It was really frustrating that Bank Negara could not help me or press charges against this company as it involves some high level people, VIP and Royal family members. How can such things happen in Malaysia? Then these people are higher than the law. This is the fact and this is what BN government practices.
We really need to make a change in coming GE. BN has ruled too long in Malaysia. That is why we need YB to stay on and defend your BG seat. Then step by step, hopefully changes can be made and achieved.
Comment by Leong WK — February 15, 2008 @ 1:19 am
All of us should vote wisely this coming GE. We want the best for Malaysia, after all, we have no where to go. Please check yours, family members and friends’ voting details by keying in your IC number in a shortcut box on the left hand side of Malaysiakiani, http://malaysiakini.com
YB Fong, I believe all Malaysians will vote for you wherever you contest. Parliament will be very dull without you.

YB Fong,
Just read the news about your decision to withdraw yourself from the 2008 general election and feel astonishing about it!
I’m not a DAP member since I choose to be a non-partisan. However, I really appreciate your performance in Parliament for the past two terms as MP and I’m going to miss you if you don’t appear again in Parliament.
If the Party Top has already decided that you are to give up the Batu Gajah seat, why don’t you try Bakri Constituency then? I, as a Johorean, will definitely give you full support if you come to Johor. And I believe a lot of Chua Jui Ming fans and Chua Soi Lek fans will cast their vote for you too!
Best wishes!

YB Fong,
You quite? I hope that is not true.
There maybe problems within the party members, but I do believe all problems can be solved.
There is still time for you to reconsider and hope that DAP leaders will not accept your resignation letter.
This 12GE is the greatest battle for DAP and all Malaysian to fight for change.
At least fight out this battle. Do not let the people down.
Comment by Ricky — February 17, 2008 @ 6:22 pm
Just read in msiakini that you have quit putting yourself for any nominations in anywhere in Msia as a MP. This is indeed a big blow as you have been very vocal and dedicated championing issues such as women rights and education in Parliment. With your astounding victory in the last GE trashing Ong Ka Chuan with even a bigger majority was the best news to me last election.
Really really sad to see a champion in your mould to exit the arena. Do hope a tinge of miracle can happen and you will pull back your letter and offer yourself again as MP for Batu Gajah.
I believe many out there share the same sentiment as me.
Comment by Chee Yong — February 17, 2008 @ 6:28 pm
Heard in Malaysiakini that you would not be contesting in the forthcoming election. Don’t let the emotion get the better of you. We need capable representativelike you to provide the voice for Malaysia. Please RETHINK your decision. Don’t give up on us Po Kuan. Our thoughts are with you.

Just read on Malaysiakini tht u have decided not to run in the 12 GE…Eventhough I am in Australia and my Malaysian residence is not anywhere near ur constituency I am still well aware of ur existence because of your good attendance and good debates in parliament. It is very sad to hear of ur departure from active politics this time around and I really hope tht you will retract ur letter and run for the GE. Common, in general how many Opposition MP’s do we have?, in particular how many female Opposition Mp’s do we have?….
Yb Fong, pls reconsider defending ur seat.

Comment by Shaun A. — February 17, 2008 @ 7:17 pm
You should continue as MP, as you are very hardworking and one who is able to to bring up issues in parliament. If you go it will be a lost to the nation and DAP.
Comment by Miqdad — February 17, 2008 @ 7:32 pm
I really hope that you can reconsider and change your mind in withdrawing yourself from contesting for an MP seat.
If Batu Gajah constituency has to be given up to a new comer, why don’t you offer yourself for a good fight in Bakri, Johor?
If you win in Johor, you can still be a YB while living with your husband in Johor. If you cannot win, just take it as an opportunity to withdraw yourself temporarily from Politics for child bearing plan for your own sake! If you contest, no matter what the outcome will be, you have gotten nothing to lose.
If you quit at the critical moment, that will be a big blow to your own political cause and you will be regretted some day in the future because you have let the people down! So, please do cheer up and fight again in Bakri!
My friends and I will all stand behind you in Johor!
Comment by Desmond — February 17, 2008 @ 7:41 pm
I’ve seen you work tirelessly in Bt. Gajah. Your withdrawal to contest in this election will be a great loss for all Malaysians that are hoping for a better tomorrow. As in politics, there are always someone eyeing somebody’s positions. It is sad that it has to be ended this way because of some selfish individual. Anyway, all the best to you and hope that Thomas Su will be chosen to be your replacement as I know him personally and I know he will do a good job. Thanks for the 8 years of your youth given to the nation. May God bless you.
Comment by George — February 17, 2008 @ 7:44 pm
Ms Fong, I sincerely urge you to reconsider your decision not contest in this GE. This is a do or die battle for all Malaysians, and your services is still much needed. I just watched the Buletin Utama news at TV3. So it is official that you won’t be contesting in the coming election for Batu Gajah or any parliamentary seat. It’s really sad for me to know that you have quit.
I wish to thank you for the two terms you served as our representative. You have been a vocal MP and have champion the idea of democracy and civil rights for many Malaysians. Your departure is not only a lost to the people of your constituency but to all Malaysians as well.
I respect your decision anyway and I hope all the best for you in the future.

It is sad indeed to hear you are quitting but this is not the time to quit.
Just like you are asking the voters to vote for change, let me urge you to CHANGE too. That is your final decision to quit.
The people of Batu Gajah needs you, the DAP and alternative forces need you and the nation needs your presence in the Dewan to continue the change for a Better Malaysia.
Don’t let the little Napoleans in the local DAP to thwart your duties to the nation. There are always such little minds in any organisation.
But if we cannot plead with you to CHANGE your quit decision, allow us to wish you all the best in your future undertakings. But do consider our pleas for you to CHANGE.

YB Fong,
I was about to write to YB Kit and DAP SG but read your statement posted by SG LGE and many posting at YB Kit blog.
Everyone is very sad about your quiting including me. I know you are a great fighter, why give up. So long as you have the blessing from YB Kit and DAP SG ( unless they did not ), why do you care about what your other party members said.
There is no Final Decision in Politics
I am 54 years old and have been a full supporter of DAP all my life. I am begging you to retract your decision, if you want me to kneel down to beg I will do so. This is not the time to quite no matter how bad you are treated by DAP. This GE is the only chance to kick racist islamic state umno in the ass and send a strong signal to them not to play with fire and treat us as fools.
So YB Fong, please, please do not back out now.

Surprisingly heard this news first thing in the morning (in Uk). Although Im not Batu Gajah resident, but I hope something or someone can change your mind. Not easy to get a great politician as you are. People still need you as MP to fight for the right, and unearth all the corrupted and misleadiing incidents. Is not a good timing to quit at this moment, as you know voter are no longer vote for a particular party but will only vote for the person that they can count on. Who ever representing this Parliment seat for DAP (other than you) might not easy to gain the voter confident. This would be a risk loosing the seat to MCA. Remember, you are only the few woman politician that really perform well in the parliment. Please reconsider to retract the announcement.
Comment by Joshua — February 17, 2008 @ 10:58 pm
Dear YB Fong,
I am very sad to see the news of you quitting at this crucial point of time. You are full of vision, courage and justice and you are one of the very few Parliament member will dare to voice out the truth. Understanding that you might not get a fair treatment from DAP but I guess peoples do need a fighter like you. Please reconsider your decision. I don’t think people will think that you don’t take your words seriously if you retract your quitting decision now.
Please reconsider. Your resignation will be a big lost for Malaysian rakyat.

I have 2 daughters. They are 3 and 1 year old. In fact, I would want them to look up to you as a good example of serving the people. I would be a proud dad if they can
excel in life and gain respect and honour like you.
We need MPs like you. You choose to quit. But the people want you back.
Please retract your decision. I am now in tears(imagine a 37 year-old guy and a father of 2 said that).

Dearest Po Kuan,
You must not quit so easily!
DAP needs you!
DAP is short of female candidates, you must fight on!
The whole Malaysia needs you!
If you really need to quit, I suggest you compete and win the seat first, quit only after Anwar becomes elligible again and force a by-election for Anwar to return to Parliament!

Comment by Ricky — February 17, 2008 @ 11:24 pm
YB Fong, Me and my family have been a long time admirer of your guts and your great work in Parliament. This time, probably due to the increased chances of DAP candidates and also the fact that DAP has many good candidates, jossling for seats would naturally happen. In fact, I personally spoken to some of these DAP potential candidates and they are good. Nevertheless, what is critical at this present moment is the unity in the DAP to deny BN 2/3 majority and to do that, we need YOUR help. Please please please heed the DAP leadership’s call to continue standing in Batu Gajah. It might be against your personal wishes and preferences but please do it (even reluctantly) for us so that the bigger picture can be fulfilled. Remember you have the support of the DAP top leadership and most of all, you have the support from all of us, Malaysians. Please do it just for our sake (the helpless people) and you would surely be rewarded later!!

Please do not quit. Your quit decision will have national repercussions. I am certain you don;t want that.

I am a DAP supporter but by reading those news will let us feel down.

YB, I grew up in Ipoh. Many years ago, when i know you became one of the youngest female MP of DAP, it was giving me an excited hope on malaysia future.I was 18 years old that day. After 5 years, i heard you defeat Ong, it gave me some hope on something can change in chinese society. That time, I was studying in UK.
i do not know the reason and we do not see any chance to know the real reason.Anyhow, politics is hard. I think you know it since the 1st day you decide to involve in it.Now, maybe there is something tough for you and you can’t overcome it.Why not think about why you join in politics at 1st day? Has the reason change? have you achieve your goal?
this is the only advise i can provide, hope you do not mind.

Batu Gajah is one constituency which the EC has gerrymandered & packed all of us strategic supporters. I think we should let Po Kuan decides what’s best. Eventhough she has spoken on behalf of us for some time and it’s her freedom to go whichever way she wants. I respect her as a person therefore I respect her decision. It’s sad though. Hope you’ll continue to fight for justice.

Do not tell us that you would not contest in this coming general election. We are here to support you. You are the woman that I highly admire to.
Hope to see you contest in this coming general election.

Po Kuan,
Your decision to quit has caused us a lot of sadness. Jostling for positions at this crucial stage is common especially when people could sniff that BN could be denied the 2/3 majaority. Are you a quitter? I believe not and I sincerely hope you would do a bit of soul searching and will take up the challenge to defend democracy for Malaysia again. Don’t give up on us Po Kuan……we are right behind you!!!

I fell sad to know that YB Fong is not going to contest in this coming election but it is good DAP can let the capable new face come to contest. We cannot always depend on “old” faces. I really hope DAP can get a better achievement in 12-election. And I hope YB Fong will continue to serve our people. Thanks YB Fong voice out the truth in our “un-transparency” paliment.

Don’t give up on us, Po Kuan
Don’t make us walk the path of darkness
The future isn’t just for two terms
You will stand there and fight
Against chauvinism, racial & corrupt politics
For the good & betterment of M’sia
Don’t give up on us, Po Kuan
You’re still worth more tries
We know life as MP is tough
But in you we see our “Cili Padi”
And our Malaysia own “Joan of Arc”
Don’t give up on us yet
You can still come through
Don’t give up on us, Po Kuan
Lord knows you’ve come this far
Couldn’t you stay the way you are?
Fighting & defending our rights
Without fear or favour
Take care & we love you Po Kuan

Dear Po Kuan,
I am a Muarian and was delighted that you were made half a Muarian recently. You are a good MP and good MP doesn’t comes around easily. Please do not be let down due to “internal politic” for at this critical time, the “external politic” is where you must set eyes upon. Otherwise, your passion that led you to what you are today, to dedicate yourself for the good of the nation, is being step on by someone in the your own party with personal agenda. You fought many wolves and hyenas in the parliment, these clowns pale in comparison. You go girl!
Comment by GermanMachine — February 18, 2008 @ 1:10 am
Dear Po Kuan, I admire your guts and how you stand up for the people against the nonsense that happens in Parliament. Besides LKS, you are the only impressive candidate for DAP. I am sure you have a good reason for not contesting, however you can see that you have a lot of supporters. We can only hope you will change your mind, at least for this election, just hang on for another month! I just cannot stand how the BN is using your quitting as a chance to gloat and demoralise DAP. You are in my prayers.

YB Fong,
I’m still not eligible to vote in the 12th GE but I am aware with Malaysians politics since I was 15.
Thinking of to vote in the 13th General Election and give full support to DAP by casting my vote in PJ Utara.
The recent tantrums by DAP leaders in Penang is not a good sign and now with your resignations due to some circumstances in Perak DAP will demoralize DAP voters nation wide. I hope you can reconsider your decision or perhaps changing your counstitution. Parliment needs CILI PADI like you!!!
To achieve a check and balance parliment, we need you too!!
Do you thinking of contesting in Selangor??
If you do, I believe people from Selangor will support you too!! (hope I’m not too naive making this statement)

Met your hubby Tan for the 1st time that night. The 3 of us were the last to leave. You’ve told me you admired Kit Siang as the most patriotic Malaysian. I remembered you listened to him in 2004. Very much wish that you would listen to him once again. Your participation is important for the momentum build-up. Please count the record comments in your blog, all pleading with you. Can see that everybody here loves you, but all feeling sad. My patriotic fren, whatever’s bugging you, do reconsider, ok?

YB Po Kuan,
As I read this post by Uncle Lim, tears just welled up in my eyes.
Its never easy to be in politics & to find yourself as opposition in Malaysia is a million times harder. Yet against all odds (especially against Ong Ka Chuan, he thought he could easily turn you into meat balls) you have victoriously sailed through.
You have become a symbol for democracy & Justice emerging from the much needed 2nd wave of younger generation to take the baton from Uncle Lim. Constant pressure not just from BN but from within will come at times to deal you with a killer blow. It is at times like this that one rises above the occasion, like pure gold being refined 7 times ferocious heat in the furnace.
Of all the many opposition leaders coming from the younger generation, YB Po Kuan, you are one of that rare pure gold!
So, I urge you & encourage you to take the bigger picture, it is noy just DAP that needs you at this crictical moment in history with every tell tale sign that the nation is facing grave danger of turning into a dictatorship regime, Malaysians need you!
May God grants you the wisdon & understanding & overwhelms you with love & affection & May He protects you with a shield for your coming in & going out. Amen!

Comment by gopie — February 18, 2008 @ 6:58 am
Are you faced with the same problem experienced by LLT? If you are quitting on that basis, then I think you have made the biggest mistake of your life! What ideals had you when you first joined DAP? What ideals had you when you got elected on your first term? And re-elected for a second? You had decided to fight for democracy the very first day you joined DAP, meaning you have to sacrifice lots of things. You knew very well that is so, so don’t tell me that you are suddenly aware that personal benefits are more important!
Comment by ktteokt — February 18, 2008 @ 7:19 am

This is my first visit to your website. You should know why.
May I appeal to you to reconsider your decision. With party does have bickering? Even a small family of two will have bickering.
Think of the larger agenda - to deny BN 2/3 majority. Doesn’t your country come before some small matter?
Politics is a big game, girl, we need strong people. We need you.
Comment by Mr Smith — February 18, 2008 @ 8:36 am
reading the news piece on your press announcement has been one single most depressing news from Malaysia for me in a long long time. losing a MP like yourself, would be as great a loss as the losses of whole of PerwajaSteel,Proton,PKZB all combined.
Pls dear MP Fong. Life has its hurdles, and never compromised your ideals and principles in the face of them. but quiting and leaving your adversaries laughing their ways to oblivion is not exactly “principled” act either.
May strength of a thousand men and women be with you.
Comment by tomatoinc — February 18, 2008 @ 8:45 am

Yang Berhormat Fong Po Kuan,
I admit that I am not a big follower of the political maneuvering in Malaysia, having just a basic understanding of its internal workings - but more distrust for the intentions of the politicians behind them.
However, when I came across your work and some of your undertakings for your party & people, it did serve to clear some of the distrusts I have for politicians, in general. If half of the current generation of politicians possess your wit, spunk, and backbone; the political scene in Malaysia would be more one that is more accountable for its actions, transparent, and dare I say, effective?
Although you have reluctantly taken the decision to leave your position, I am sure a person of your character will find other ways to contribute back to society. I wish you best of luck in your future undertakings, and I know I will be hearing more of your exploits in the near future, be it in or out of the political scene.
Cheers,
Damien

Dear Po Kuan,
I came across the news of your pull out from the incoming general election and I just want to drop a few line here to voice my opinion. I understand your frustration over the internal issue of the party and your decision to quit. The struggle as an opposition MP is not going to be easy and I admire the effort you have put in so far but I hope you see any difficulty as a challenge and continue to go for it. I see this (problem and barrier) as part of the life and I sincerely hope you continue to fight for a place to serve the people of BG. In any society, there is tends to be different opinion among the players and I hope you can take it positively and always remember the support BG peoples given to you…

Dear Poh Kuan,
I am shocked by what I saw on the NTV7 news yesterday. “Why?” Is the only question that came to my mind. I read of rumours but I often think of you as a stronger person that can withstand against those who are after petty things. It must surely have badly affected you to resort to this measure.
Yet I appeal to you to reconsider your decision to not contest in your Batu Gajah parliamentary seat. You may not have noticed but you gave hope to others where they have no hope and dreams to many who may not have dreamed.
I believe you are where you are because you have an ideal and passion for the weak and downtrodded. Now more than ever, people that has no voice desperately seek those that have them in mind, heart and soul to speak for them and bring about differences. Will you not then again lend your service?
Long indded you have strived for them and people can be hopeless at times. Yet do not forget your love for them (especially your Batu Gajah friends and families) for they are always in need of you. I believe if you have hindrances, you can voice it to your superiors in the national headquarters to help you to resolve matters. The people, having faith in you, will definitely stand by your side.
So why let some pesky self seeking heart wrenching idiots who can’t see beyond their noses be of hindrance to you.
Poh Kuan, please reconsider for the sake of the people. It will be emotional, heart wrenching and even bitter, perhaps more that what I can ever imagine, but you are the beacon of hope for many who has grappled in the dark endless tunnel for far too long. So please don’t abandon them. Please recontest. Perhaps just this once as you groom your successor. Who knows, when the time comes to step down, your persistence would have bring about the impossible change that you so longed for.
God bless…

Please look at the bigger picture. DAP is at its strongest point in the election. Also thanks to you for an impeccable display in Parliment. looking at the Star today, they made a big spin on your press conference to the BN’s advantage. DAP has supported you the last 2 elections. Don’t think you want to pay them back this way. It is not too late to reconsider. It takes a big man to swallow some pride. For the good of Malaysians, please reconsider and help DAP. Personal issues with 1 or 2 leaders can be resolved and why make it difficult for us voters?

Comment by z99 — February 18, 2008 @ 9:36 am
Dear Po Kuan,
It is saddening to read the news about your decision not to contest in this election. More saddening is the reason you stated and the rumors in the air. Being someone though young and junior compared with many stalwarts out there you never lacked the wisdom and points when arguing in parliament to defend the rights of Malaysian in general. This is certainly the type of quality our leaders NEED in this country. On the other hand quitting from the about to start battle is also not a QUALITY a leader should have. Most of us see you as fighter and we want to see you continue fighting to clean this corrupted administration. Your decision not to go ahead is already a primary victory for BN according to Star today.
I don’t see myself changing your mind. But I would like to stress this point to you. Winning and loosing is part and parcel of life; a warrior doesn’t become less of him no matter where his position, as long as he is in the battlefield fighting with opponents; people know who Fong Po Kuan is, even if you were to be defeated you still will be a winner and warrior to us. Make a right choice, a choice you stood for thus far as it is not too late. Be the inspirer to young Malaysians.
GOD BLESS YOU

I shall not add to the many support messages here. But allow me to say that party politics does bring some sh*t that we wish never have in our fight for democracy and fairness. Take the sh*t as a small obstacle that you simply have to fend off for a great good and rakyat that you believe in. Put it differently, we simply have to swallow such sh*t. You have actually gone thru even worse things by the abuses of BN MPs in Parlimen. So what is this sh*t at all!

I was saddened by your decision. My hometown is in Batu Gajah and MP, you have made us so proud of having you. Last election, I rush back from KL after casting my vote and waited for the results next to the fence like many of your supporters. We did not leave until we hear the final result and we were estatic with your win of MCA strongman. Prior to your announcement yesterday, my husband told me that he wants to go back to Batu Gajah to look at your banners and flyers and we still hope this is possible. The power of the people is behind you. my whole family including my uncles, aunties, cousins voted for you for last 2 terms. We need you, thank you for all the sacrifice you have made for us. Ex YB,
I think you may not realise by going public to say internal issues of DAP at the critical moment, quite a severe damage has been done to the Opposition.
It contradict what you state above “The power is now returned to the people. Let us deny Barisan Nasional 2/3 majority for a better Malaysia for all Malaysians. Please vote for DAP!”
However mistake can be forgiven, if sincerity is displayed.
Comment by walk the tok — February 18, 2008 @ 11:19 am
1. Do not unwittingly become news fodder (Star 18-Feb-08 headline)and morale booster for the BN. Newspaper and tv reports are using your announcement (and other ex-DAP MPs eg. Hu Sepang & Wee Choo Kiong et.al) to paint a the DAP as a house in turmoil. The negative vibes have shaken my resolve to vote DAP/opposition in GE12. Many of my friends feel the same way.
2. You have done a good job, so far. Pls continue in your mission. It means making some sacrifices but that is what opposition politics is all about.

It was a long night yesterday. I recalled and kept thinking of what you said during the press conference. You must have undergone mind-boggling and self conflicting moments to make such a decision. It is a blow to the not only DAP but the entire nation. In particular, those who have been giving you the fullest support find it hard to accept the decision. They are let down in the run-up to the election day amidst hopes of yearning for fairness and democracy.

YB Fong,
In every aspect of life, there will be little people (”siu yan”) out to get you. I hope you will not make these jokers happy by stepping down. It is EXACTLY what they want.
Please spare a thought for not just your supporters in Batu Gajah, but for the entire oppressed people of Malaysia. All righteous thinking Malaysians needs people like you.
Please come back and weather this storm created by the nasty little people. After the storm, mobilize righteous DAP voters/supporters to apply pressure to remove the clowns from the state DAP. Let’s face it. All political parties have their fair share of clowns. The highest level of EQ is to stick around, and not let these clowns get what they want.

Dear YB Po Kuan,
Please don’t do this- abandoning all you stood for, fought for in Parliament and outside, took ‘abuse’ for. Please ask yourself if you have achieved your objectives.Have you ever been a quitter? If the DAP top guns want to “serve” another area, take that as an honour, a new challenge-to serve another group of constituents. OR IS YOUR QUITTING ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR RECENT MARRIAGE- BE FARE TO US.
PLEASE RE-CONSIDER. WE NEED YOU AND MOST IMPORTANTLE DAP NEEDS YOU.

I hope you can withdraw your announcement not to contest in the coming GE. Let bury the hatch and whatever past is past and consolidate for the sake of DAP and the people to deny the 2/3 majority. BN is taking chances now to publicise your non-seeking of nomination. We can’t let the idiot BN machinery to harp on this issue. Please reconsider and contest again and dont quit DAP. I am sure you are mature enough and going to press is no good. Can you talk to YB Kit or Guan Eng to convey your message instead of let the BN to manipulate your statement.
Comment by tan — February 18, 2008 @ 11:53 am
This is certain that I am not a voter at Batu Gajah but the false evidence appearing real to you in submitting to the unpleasantness and obstacles which you succeeded in gaining the confidence and trust from the voters in BG for two terms. You managed to overcome them and perform selflessly in your constituency.
If it is the inside-party chaos that caused you to give up hope of serving the people whom have faith and confidence in you…..then you have the greatest challenge in your life which you needed to overcome….i.e. your personal self….your ego and sensitivity or perhaps the longing for recognition and acceptance by party leaders and team players.
It was your commitment and passion to serve the people that brought you into the fiery political arena. This is the crucial period at this cross-road which you are going to face this lifetime! Consider your decision haunting you day after day when you have not realized the ‘real’ for giving up an in-born passion to ensure ethics and principles of life.
Great leaders never succumb to ‘dirty political tricks’ and it could be your opponent’s decoy for your departure! The people in BG and Malaysians needed your services and passion…..please do reconsider your ‘cili padi’ political career!

Good day Madam
I was very disheartened to read about your comments in the papers this morning. I respect your stand and I understand where you are coming from. However, I urge you to reconsider your stand, in the interests of the nation. More than that I urge the DAP leaders to listen to what you have said and consider too their own actions. It is the individual that makes up the community and you have been an inspiring individual. They too should put aside their interest and let the proven person (yourself) contest in the constituency you have served so well. Now is not the time for them to take the opportunity to jostle for their own interest. Let them work to earn their place. At the same time, you know more than I do about the internal workings of the party and so do they. Therefore, please work it out between yourselves before nomination day and stand as a united front. The ruling coalition has been able to stay in power for so long because the opposition has not been as strong and as united. Now the time for change is at hand. Please be strong and be untied so that we the voters can have confidence that the opposition can do as well if not better than the ruling coalition. Whatever it is, I respect your decision and I wish you all the best. I know that more than politics, you are a decent person (if your public life is anything to go by) and that is more than I can say for the members of the ruling coalition. Take care and God bless you and yours. Gong xi Fa Cai.

Dear YB, Pls think about the bigger picture. Giving up at a strategic time like this is a big set back to people who want to see a change. If you have issues this can be discussed after the election at the right time and the right forum. Now is the time to act and not discuss issues. Grow bigger than this issue and stand for elections. This is the biggest opportunity to make a change, help the change and stand for elections. Think of the community. Thank you

If any BN MP would want to “resign” I guarantee you, nobody would bother. Being an MP is about your constituents and they need you more than ever now.To let them down is to let yourself down and admit defeat. The BN bullies are scared stiff of you that’s why they bully, jeer and mock you but you are stronger than them. If you give up now,you let those BN male chauvinistic pigs win over you. DON’T THROW IN THE TOWEL WHEN YOU ARE AHEAD! That’s all I have to say.

Dear YB Fong,
I’m a voter in Cheras, KL. As far as I’m concerned, you have performed well in Parliament and also the champion for the woman issues. Your track records will deny Barisan Nasional’s presence in Batu Gajah again. The rakyat still needs you and it would be a heart breaking moment for all your supporters and fans in Parliament. The August House will not be the same again without your presence. We still need the “cili padi” to spice up the Parliament and to keep democracy alive. Please re-contest the Batu Gajah seat.
Comment by For Democracy — February 18, 2008 @ 3:13 pm

The best option now for you is to stand for re-elections for the best interest of yourself, party and Malaysians on the whole. There has been great publicity in all mass media about you. Set aside any other feelings now and work together for the sake of reducing the BN two third majority.

Dear Po Kuan,
Although I very much wanted to see how you beat your opponent but I guess it does not take you overnight to make such a “difficult” decision. I am in no position to ask you to continue to serve the people as I will not be there to share your work load nor the pressure you have to take everyday. Therefore, I respected it and I wish you well.
I was first introduce to politics and inspired at the age of 17. I remember asking you what is a MP and what they do. 8 years now and I am still proud of you especially when it comes to you giving “ceramah”. In fact, if I have just one wish, I wish to go around campaigning with you again. I have grown up and now I can do more than selling can drinks to raise fund.
Words cannot describe my feeling, rumours are not convincing until you had announced your intention not to contest in the coming GE. I can’t deny that it has an impact on me for I had already offered myself to help in PJ branch. I am demotivated and I have second thoughts because you are always my role model. Say I am silly because I see things in grey colour for 15 minutes as I thought you are the “chosen” one to turn around our country. After taking a deep breathe, I put myself in your shoes, I can understand your frustration.
I will still keep my promise to PJ Branch (a little favor I can do for you) and I believe each and everyone can make a difference. Vote wisely!

I think your announcement at this hour is selfish and heartless as you should know that it would throw the party into disarray. You are loved by the people in BG, because you always fight for their right. I believe whoever is contesting in your place will lose no matter what because you are the one they want to serve them as MP, not any other people. And your decision to pull out might cost DAP a lot in the election.

Having met you (introduced by Guan Eng) and spoken to you at the DAP PJ’s dinner on 1st November 2007, my family, friends and I know that you are made of better stuff - speaking without fear and favour. You have done a great job and are an asset to DAP, of which we are eternally grateful.
Having party squabbles just before election is part and parcel of a democratic process. Being effective and popular, you will attract unnecessary attention and jealousy to yourself. As the Chinese proverb goes, “A tall tree attracts strong wind”
My two cents worth of advice, “Po Kuan, the country needs you. Be strong. Be part of history - deny BN their 2/3rd majority. Just change it. Remember the success of person is not measured by the number of times he/she falls but the number of times he/she stands up after the fall”

Just feel sad and disappointed the FPK decided not to contest in the coming election. There are serious implications:
1. BG is one the winnable seat that can form 2/3 majority. Now it is in doubt
2. DAP’s scare resources has to be diverted from other grey areas to win BG
3. If FPK is still the candidate, BG needs not to have spent more resources. Instead, some of them can be distributed to other areas. She even needs not to spend so much time there. She can help others.
4. BN will exploit this moment of weakness.
5. As a profession and a lawyer by education, has she gone through a mediator or arbitrator instead of jumping to the final decision about the bricking?
6. Lee Kuan Yew wants his ministers to undergo test of fire to know their qualities and bear up all the internal bricking or even go to jail or ISA. Like family, bound to have some misunderstanding and petty quarrels. Just curious if her children know that their mother fights very well in the parliament but when in the party, she would give up so easily. I think they will be very disappointed and can even lower their heads as compare to LGE or Patto when they fight for the people and stick with the party thick and thin. Their children should be very proud of their parents. I think her relatives and close friends are very disappointed too. I maybe wrong
7. By all means, she can go to Johor and continue to serve the people there who need every opposition member in the parliament. So still not too late to consider the decision.

Dearest Po Kuan, I sincerely hope you heard the voices of the many people here and the hopes that come with it.We must fight to win and set a new future for our ourselves. Please don’t let us down as there are many people who look up to you for the courage and strength.I know you said it’s final and you must have thought it through very carefully but I bet you had not anticipated the faith and love ordinary people have for you. If you can’t sleep well last night thinking about your decision then it is probably a wrong one. Please come back. We need you. It’s selfish of us but it’s really not an option.
Comment by Karmen Lee — February 18, 2008 @ 6:19 pm
Dear Poh Kuan,
I was so disappointed to read about you not contesting in your seat in this GE. Internal conflicts in the party is what politics is all about - you should know this by now. By deciding not to contest, and being bitter about it will only reduce DAP’s chances of winning more votes and seats. Choosing to do this at the 11th hour only shows the lack of political maturity on your part, and may be construed as mala fide calculated to inflict maximum damage on your party that you profess to love.
Anyway, its too late now to turn back the clock. I will not beg you (like the others) to “re-consider” your decision, because IF you decide to re-consider, you will lose all credibility anyway.
Its a shame that you chose to exit in this manner. I recognise the contributions you have made to this country, and wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

YB FPK
Sorry I have to repeat this here..in case you dont read LKS’s blog..:)
On one hand I want to give you a motherly hug and tell you to pull yourself together and be the cilipadi that you are reputed to be. I wish to think that you must be facing stress that has overwhelmed you and need a little rest.
On the other hand, I wish to wag you and tell you girl, dont be so sensitive, think of the rakyat, the oppressed, the neglected, the marginalised who cant get out of their sorry state without help from fortunate people like you who has God-given brains and money to get an education!
Plse, I think you still have the fire burning! If being a politician is as smooth-sailing as we wish it to be, there would be an abundance of them!
Now when the iron is hot, dont abandon ship for you may regret it later..what are you going to tell your children, grand children, great grand children when they read about this episode sometime to come? ” Mommy, POPO/ Ah Mah was angry with……….so I quit lah!!”
Come on girl! berkhidmat untuk negara and the whole nation will love you for that till posterity…
-A little advice from a pensioner who is also a cilipadi in my own way..
Comment by Celia — February 18, 2008 @ 7:22 pm
YB Fong,
Who should stay you, YB Karpal, YB Mohd Zaid, YB Sharir, YB Teresa Kok, YB Chew Mei Fun to name a few. Who should go, YB Mokhtar ( Kinabatanagan) YB Said ( Jasin ) and YB Badaruddin ( Jerai) . Malaysian no longer votes for the party but the candidate themself. Only the foolish will vote blindly for the party. I will be voting against my assemblyman and for my parlimentarian this coming election. So please consider some Johoreans’ advise to contest in your husband’s home state. Maybe you will create history again. This will show that the people will vote for the candidate not the party. I hope by doing so you can prove to the government & political parties that Malaysian do not vote blindly. Tq. My best wishes to you in whatever your decision maybe.

Dear YB Fong,
I’m not a DAP member but I’m always with the DAP as an opposition. This is our best opportunity in so many General Elections to deny BN the crucial 2/3 majority. But we need YB Fong to defend the Batu Gajah seat to deny BN the 2/3 majority. We hope that YB Fong will reconsider your decision and fight BN. You do your part and the rest of the of the opposition will do theirs as part of a strong opposition.

YB Fong,
There are times that we individuals will become a public property, to serve the interest of the wide community.
I am certain I know the shit you had to battle within DAP Perak and the power-play amongst the recalcitrant.
However, the nation is at stake and the choice now is between two evils. Hope you would take a step higher than the others and do not let emotion cloud your intelligence.
Arthur Schopenhauer said: “The healthy man asks not so much for happiness as for an opportunity to exercise his capacities; and if he must pay the penalty of pain for this freedom and this power he makes the forfeit cheerfully; it is not too great a price. We need resistance to raise us, as it raises the airplane or the bird; we need obstacles against which to sharpen our strength and stimulate our growth. Life without tragedy would be unworthy of man.”
Hope you will derive wisdom and put the country above self. I believed it is not asking too much, for you must remember that the rakyat had supported you and voted for you for the last 8 years. It’s time to give it a much need thought.
Wish you did discover the profound knowledge and wish you all the best.
The rakyat will always be with you.

ACTUALLY FONG IS NOT WEAK.
It requires a greater strength, willpower and resolve to withdraw from your position of strength. Tactically, it is also good. It forces your enemies to exposed their hands.
Take a good rest and reflect in the next three to four years. This will give you the opportunity to identify your true friends and supporters from the many who just give lip service.
In the long run you will win

If you think you are beaten you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t;
If you want to win but think you can’t;
It’s almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose you’re lost;
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will;
It’s all in a state of mind.
Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger and faster person,
But sooner or later the person who wins is the person who thinks he can.

Dear Ms Fong Po Kuan,
Firstly, let me congratulate you on your recent marriage. I wish for everlasting happiness for you and family. Pssst….have more kids, we will need the votes.
Today I read in the Sun the saddest news of the year, so far, for me and lots others.
I am not ashamed to say, it brought tears to my eyes.
We are so glad and thankful for people like you who so unselfishly and nobly served the people. And we all applauded when you trounced that bully ong ka chuan to serve a second term. We were looking for lots more terms with you.
All my life I have contributed and helped where I can, in my little ways, to the ultimate destruction of this all exploitative, hated, dishonest, corrupted and inhuman government we had the misfortune to inherit from the British colonialists. Today, the British seem like angels, having brought us an economic infrastructure and a great education system. And they took only RM600 million as their fees. This amount is peanuts if we compare to what the new colonialist Barisan National “plundered from the country”, in the apt words of the illustrious civil servant Dato Rastam Hadi. Those people are cold-blooded, not caring if people and children live or die ! As an example, when the Prime Minister bribed the umno division leaders RM 300 million, and the umno divisions greedily accepted this bribe, did they care if there was not enought kidney dialysis machines in the hospitals? RM 300 million could have bought more than 100 machines that would greatly aid the patients who have to spend 4 hours every daily for theie dialysis. The hospital staff always tell you the hospital is perenially short of equipment and drugs because of shortage of money. And the Bn reduces the Budget allocation for medical.
You know, it hurts us everytime some problem erupts in the DAP and other opposition parties. It can reduce support and give an opportunity for the bn to make hay. Even political bankrupts like wee choo keong (who is helping the Bn defeat DAP in Bkt Bintang) can have a great time.
When there is only one person, there are no problems. If there are two people, the potential for problems begins. More than two, the potential multiplies.
It is not surprising then that “internal party events” should rear their ugly heads. What they are, I don’t know except what I read in the newspapers. I have experience painful disappointments in my life, and I understand. I don’t blame you one bit. There will always be people who imagine that they are the best, better than others. teng chang khim is one.
But I humbly ask, could you be totally aloof to them? Form your own circle, have a nice the with these “family members”, and continue to serve and ignoring the vexations?
Think of how happy the evil Bn/mca/mic/gerakan axis is.
I hope you can, but if not, I don’t blame you one bit. You have done more in 9 years what most of us cannot do in a lifetime. And we thank you.
I am stepping into the twilight of my life now. I have no internet because I cannot afford it. The Bn only pays lip service to wanting broadband in every home. The hypocrite lim keng yaik complains that there are not enough broadband penetration, but allows the internet companies to keep prices high. TM Net has more than 1 million customers, and at RM 77.00 a month (for 512kbps) works out to RM 77 million income every month. With lousy service to boot. I am glad my friend allows me to “tumpang” a few times a week. I have no Astro for the same reason.Or car. Matter of fact, I don’t buy the Bn newspapers as well. I can survive on the Sun and borrowed papers.
I HAVE A DREAM. I would like to see the Bn toppled someday. And you are one of those who can help us make this dream come true. It will be my life’s greatest disappointment if I don’t live to see a change of this corrupted government. But I will always be grateful for right-thinking people like you who stopped by.
Leave this part of your political life behind, if you have to. No one will blame you I’m sure. Perhaps in future……..
And Forgive me if I watch you leave……with tears in my eyes.
Take care.
With kindest regards,
“Justice Always”

Our Dearest YB Fong,
A big shock to me and I am strongly believe that to all your Malaysian supporters especially the Batu Gajah’s people when we read the news this morning over your withdrawal to contest in this coming general election!!!
You have been treated and respected by all rakyat as the lady that really stand out to work hard for the rakyat’s needs, a lady that talk with action, a lady that fear nothing, a true rakyat’s representative!
In today’s Malaysia, the rakyat needs you to check on our government and voice our wills and wishes in the parliment. We already have too few true and fair rakyat representatives as the opposition in the parliment and if without you in, Batu Gajah will likely fall into the hand of BN.
Please reconsider your important and crucial decision.
WE WANT YOU TO BE IN FOR THIS COMING GENERAL ELECTION AND WE PLEDGE OUR FULLEST CONFIDENCE AND SUPPORT FOR YOU!!!
Comment by The Rakyat — February 18, 2008 @ 11:48 pm
Dear YB, I can’t help but wonder whether you are trying to help the DAP or the BN? You may have your reasons but what you have done is a “lose-lose” to everyone else except the BN (who’s laughing happily and enjoying every minute of the show).
By doing this at this crucial time, not only you have done damage to the DAP, you have also disappointed DAP supporters and your own supporters.
You have a lot to lose too. People will think of you as not being responsible for doing this now. If the DAP loses the seat, people will blame you for it. If the DAP retains the seat, people will say you are no longer relevant and you’ll soon be forgotten.
You may have valid reasons and perhaps you have no other options. Otherwise I really don’t see why you should do this at this time. It is like a key member of a football team suddenly refuses to play just before the game starts. Only the opposite team rejoices.
So I really hope that you’ll change your mind for the sake of the big picture…for the nation.

Po Kuan,
Be steadfast and strong and do some deep soul searching and reflection.
“A quitter never wins and a winner never quits.”
“Winning isn’t everything, but the will to win is everything.”
“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success”
I would like to share my experience with you you Po Kuan. I have been through many life learning experiences and one thing I have learnt is about Managing People and Emotional Intelligence. Life will always be full of challenges be it personal relationship, colleagues, family, friends, business partners, stakeholders, careers, marriage, financial etc.
God has created us to have diferent thoughts, intelligenge, beliefs , initiatives, aspiration and ambition in life. One of the most difficult part in management is managing people as human has only learned to work together in a corporate environment over 7 generations. We are still evolving and there will come a time when there will be disagreements and irrationalities. We must learn to agree to disagree and how to manage our emotions so our goals and strategies are not compromised. Over the years I have had big disagreements in relationship, with colleagues, friends and with my bosses but each time I relfect and take it as a learning experience and I strive to be a better person. Over the years I have develop the emotional intelligence skills that we can work together but we do not need to love one another.
Don’t let small obstacles in your life blurred your vision. Don’t let the people who stood by you through thick and thin down. Don’t let the BN spin machine and media have their field days at this crucial time. Don’t let democracy down. Don’t let your belief and your vision of assisting the underprivelege and the discriminated down.
Reconsider please Po Kuan. We want you back not only for BG but for for the sake of Malaysia and our children’s future.
“Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”
Take care and hopefully when I wake up tomorrow, my wish and dream of you rejoining the Malaysia struggle together with Kit and Guan Eng would come true.

If you boycott this election out of your own personal problem, then you are a very selfish person. You should think of the bigger picture, for the interest of all Malaysians. In society, such back stabbing, and infighting are part of culture in every society. Even God says he is a better god!!!
Your resignation have clearly play into the hands of BN.
We have to be mature and think of the bigger interest of the Party and the Malaysian Society that are rudelessly brutalised.
Talk about your personal squabble once the Bigger Battle is Won in this election. In the meantime, I beg you to close rank, keep your personal problem to yourself.
If the opposition lost a seat in Parliament without you, bet you, you are to be blamed.

Hi Po Kuan,
You are one of the MP that I respect the most. I am very sad that you give up the battle in the coming election.
Your leaving is not only worsen the things, look at what the media said about your leaving, they father uglified DAP in the public.
You are not only dropping a bomb to DAP but also destroyed all the effort peoples had put in to build DAP’s repute. I am not sure should i say your are too emotional and your reaction is not appropriate at this moment.
I hope that you can seriously reconsider to return to defend Batu Gajar Parliment sit. we need you, Malaysians need you. Please….. please…..please……return…you are our hope to continue the battle to defend our right.

I do not know what the real reason is behind your decision but I will voice my opinion based on what I know so far.
DAP Leader Lim Kit Siang supports you for the BG seat. If it was dealing with DAP internal issues, it should not be now. Making such a rush decision now distracts the party and put a smile on BN’s face.
Stand your ground. Where ever party you go to, it is the same thing. When you are climbling to the top, people will try all kinds of strategy to knock you off. It is up to you to stand and fight or just walk away and never see the summit.
Seems like you have a lot of supporters. Please do not let them down because of your adversaries. You do not contend means BN won a step effortlessly and your enemies smiling.
No matter you go, you have to defend your ground or you will be a failure where ever you go. Stand up for yourself and the your loyal supporters!

Dear Po Kuan,
I am a young Ipoh resident who’s working in the UK now. Although I can’t vote, all my close friends have been discussing your decision to step down and not contest. You have been a real source of inspiration. Please reconsider contesting in this general election. There’s no shame in changing one’s mind if it’s for the right reasons. Anyway, thumbs up for standing up. March on, DAP!
Comment by Chew Hui Larn — February 19, 2008 @ 3:24 am
Dear Ms Fong, hope you could kindly re-consider your decision. The people of Batu Gajah and DAP still need you. Please do continue your struggle for a better Malaysia and for the betterment of our society. Please do carry on!
Comment by xiao he — February 19, 2008 @ 3:26 am
Sorry that you have to come to this decision. But you would be in a better position to fight from within DAP. Especially if you win BG again. There is nothing much you can do from outside.
This is classic case of people trying to take the fruits of other people’s hard work.
It is really sad Kit Siang and Guan Eng appeared not to know about the problems in Perak. How can they not know about their own backyards?
DAP should take this opportunity to not nominate the two Perak DAP state leaders to teach other state leaders a lesson. I won’t trust them.

Dear YB Fong,
I saw the headline this morning and I surf to your blog to see if you have any new post on this matter. It was like 93 comments I read so far this morning, and by the time at 3.00 am (Tue) it already 229 comments. Most all of them were very much concern about your decision.
I may know little about politics, but seeing you making public announcement in Pasar Malam really touches me. For a MP to do this for the sake of the RAKYAT. This really show that you care and doing your jobs regardless the environment. Unlike some MPs that only show up in some dinner or function.
There is always internal politic and affairs but I guess PESERVERANCE really counts. We need you and we still need you. All the best for you.

Any idea why Poh Kuan didnt update her blog? What have she thought after reading 229 comments that all of them to beg her reconsider the defending of the BG parliment seat? After all, you should know you have so strong supporters, you should not let them down. At least let us know what is the real reason you withdraw from the frontline. You should say something and let us give up to persuade you anymore. Let us know you have different perspective other than politics. Come on Madam, we need your answer, Yes or forever NO!! Of course we still put some little hope that you will say Yes, let us deny the 2/3 BN parliment seat, let us fight for more transparent Gov operation! With your leading, let BN know, we are now united to say NO to BN! OK?
Anyway, take care Madam

Po Kuan,
Please recall what make you joining DAP last time? It is very important.I believe you have the same goal like us, that is to abolish all the unfairness, corruption and ultimately to change the government.
But I really cannot believe and quite disappointed on the way you have done to your party by declaring that you will not be contesting in the coming GE.Especially during this critical time, you should not do that despite having conflict among the party members. You should think wisely for the sake of the party and the people of Msia as a whole. You have forgotten your earlier objective when you decided to step into this opposition party in the past 10 years.Do you think that you will gain respect from the Msia for doing such thing? I dont think so. Your life might start with all the unhappiness…..etc.
Therefore, Po Kuan, we urge you to reconsider again to come back to the party and contest again. Now BN is using this issue to attack DAP. It is very bad and I believe you also does not want this thing to happen to DAP. I also believe you must also have the “feeling” be one of the DAP family member after hand in hand with the party members for such a long time.
Po Kuan, do come back again…..we, the people of Msian will always be with you forever.

You played an important role and grow a seed in our heart, now you like pull the seed out of the pot and just let the seed dead … very sad and very painful. Our chinese community lost ANOTHER politician who dare to voice out, who still can we depend on ? who still can represent us?? Do you want us depend on those high ranking politician who represent chinese community but just keep quite for all the time and always seat in the parlimen be a “YES” men ???
Please reconsider again ! Although yr decision already “hurt” the party and our heart, but your involving in the coming 12th election can help bring chinese socialty back to the rack.
Hope you read this !

YB Fong
BN is having a field day attacking DAP because of your resignation, day in day out both in the print and the electronic media. This is BN’s single most powerful ammunition to discredit and undermine the Opposition, steering away the attention of the people of their endemic corruption and mismanagement of the country.
Those fence-sitters will say ” DAP is in also turmoil now, and let’s vote for BN” Have you thought of that? I am sure you have..by doing this, you are going to cost a considerable number of votes for DAP. I will still vote for DAP and other Opposition but the people at large will not think the same.Safe seats will no longer be safe. 50-50 ones may tilt in favour of BN. Weaker ones will be lost by a bigger majority. People like negative news and it will spread fast. It will nullify whatever good deeds YB Lim and others have done so far to expose the corrupt BN regime.
I am so depressed and sad at the timing of your departure.
Despite that, this is your choice and I should respect your choice. I wish you best of luck in your future undertakings.
I hope that you will come back into DAP’s arms one day and continue to serve the people with the fervour you have all this while.
To the rest, please still vote for the Opposition to teach BN a lesson.
Comment by Wizzerd — February 19, 2008 @ 9:40 am
YB Po Kuan,
First and foremost, thank you very much for your fiery performance in the Parliament. I am very sure that since your appearance on the political scene 8 years ago, you have made many people uncomfortable in saying the wrong things or passing the wrong laws. Though you continue to stand with the disadvantaged, yet you never wavered in the face of challenge, and took them head-on.
I read with interest with regards to your decision to not compete in this upcoming election. From the papers, it would seem that that the entire issue is quite complicated, but ultimately you have made a “final” decision . I am sure that you would have thought through this long and hard before making it public through the press.
Based on the comments and feedback that you have seen thus far, I am sure that you know how much the people value your contribution, and are willing to continue supporting you, for you to do your part in Parliament. I would implore you to at least take a step back from the current “Circus” (if I may be so bold to suggest), and instead, take a short breather. Relook at the entire scenario, reweigh the various options and possible decisions that can be made. Then
Eleanor Roosevelt once said “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. I am certain that you still believe in yours and the people’s, and should you do reconsider, no one would be happier than the ones who have been, and will continue to support you all the way.
May you always be well and happy.

I always admired your courage to speak out load without fear and favour, for justice and fairness against UMNO and BN extremist.
You carry the aspiration of youth in this country under DAP banner and made us proud to say that we are a part of you.
We need you to represent us in parliament to inspire us again and again so that we can stand brave and keep our faith in democracy.
I am 33 years old and I never ever cast my vote before, as I do not believe in system.
But this year I determine to crush the arrogant and corrupted BN candidate at my constituency in Skudai by pledging my undivided support to DAP candidate.
And I owe the credit of being brave to stand up against injustice to you, Saudari.
You have inspired hundreds of people and we need you to inspire hundred more “by standers” like me.

YB Po Guan,
I’m very surprised that you have decided to quit.
I have also checked Uncle Lim’s blog and according to him, he knew nothing about anything that would lead to your decision to quit.
On top of that he has said that you are very much needed to contest in Batu Gajah.
If you have any problems, I think that you should discuss them with either Uncle Lim or some other senior members of the DAP; I’m very sure that they, like all your admirers here in this blog, will want you to be the torch bearer in your constituency.
No matter what you do, don’t quit at this juncture as the opposition never have such a good chance of denying the BN it’s two-thirds majority! It may be a once-in-a lifetime opportunity! Don’t throw it away!
It’s now or never!

There are already rumours that you would be quiting DAP for good as you’ve been bought over by the other side.
Please speak up to clarify because such rumour hurts your reputation. YB, please reply.
YB, I am supporting you to come back for the People!
Comment by Sean — February 19, 2008 @ 1:42 pm
A lot have been said since the news of your withdrawal, you have been voted by the public as an individual and not because of the party you represent. If indeed there are differences within the party, then you should take the bold move to stand as an independent. Quitting and turning your back on those who have supported you is not the solution. You should stand by your aspirations when you first enter the political arena. Bring the confidence back in yourself and also the confidence of the people who have been supporting you since then.

Dear YB,
I can’t help but wonder whether you are trying to help the DAP or the BN? Perhaps you have your reasons but doing this at this crucial time is a “lose-lose” to everyone except the BN!
We can’t deny that this has done damage to the DAP, dissapointed DAP supporters and your own supporters. Even for yourself, you have much to lose too. People will think that you are not being responsible for doing this at this time. If the DAP loses the BG seat, you will be blamed for it. If the DAP retains the seat, people will say you are no longer relevant.
Perhaps you have valid reasons and you have no choice. But otherwise I can see no reason why you should pull out at this crucial time.
I really hope that you will change your mind for the sake of the big picture…for the nation!

I admire the way you speak out without fear or favour. You are an asset to our Malaysian Parliament which is so often full of MPs talking nonsense just to get their names in the press and to draw attention to themselves.
Thank you for all you have contributed to the country in these past 8 years in Parliament. We need more voices like yours in there. I hope that you will still be able to serve the country by standing for election and winning!

Dear DAP politicians,
Please don’t divide the party now and go into self-destruction move.
The people of Malaysia are looking upon you to deliver victories and deny 2/3 majority of BN.
We only have this chance once every 5 years and this is the worst time to show disunity within the party.
Please stand united and fight this tough war with the people of Malaysia. We will support you.
ps: I have donated RM1,000 to DAP online on 06th Jan 2008. I have donated another RM1,000 to DAP online on 17th Feb 2008. These are hard-earned money and should not be wasted due to disunity.

Who say that Poh Kuan will definitely lose in Johor? Segamat DAP always get at least 35-40% of the votes with weak candidates. In 1999, nobody expect Poh Kuan to win too. But she still created her history n won even more handsomely against Ka Chuan. We should even work harder together with PKR, not stay away from UMNO stronghold, as UMNO is the culprit to all problems in this country!

Dear YB Fong,
I do not know you but your reputation precedes you.
If you quit at this hour and in such a celebrated way,you give rise to much suspicion.
Nothing is perfect in life.It is also not perfect in your party or any other. The many battles before the decisive battle in the war for a better tomorrow for all Malaysians and its future generations is fraught with disappointments as well as internal politics.Take it in your stride as a woman/man,forgive those who you feel have wronged you,see the big picture and help it come true. Then you are truly a noble politician. It is the/your final battle that matters.
If Karpal Singh and Lim Kit Siang quits in a similar manner, they will also be forever remembered as a villain no matter how much they are wronged by their colleagues. But the show must/will go on with or without Karpal or Lim kit Siang.
Many sense this will be a historic moment in the history of Malaysia. You have done so much good and have every right to be part of this historic moment.Do not quit now.
If you do,you will be judged in bad light,no matter how much good you have done, and no matter how much wrongs your colleagues may have inflicted upon you.Be magnanimous enough to forgive those who have wronged you so that the more noble objectives and the big picture can be achieved ,if not for yourself then for the nation.

I urge all your supporters in Batu Gajah not to force you to retain the seat.It is a tough political life for women politician especially those with a family life to balance. It must be a hard decision to make considering the fact that you are the two-term MP there. You must have enough of the internal party crisis in Perak DAP. Stick to your decision and you won’t regret it.

Dear YB Fong,
I am posting a second time again. It has been said you are a chilli padi..In my own way ,I am one too.So I will give it to you straight in the face without mincing my words.
From all the postings ,you can conclude all the people are behind you.
You cannot loose.
But loose you will,if you do not change your mind.
You will loose the respect of the people who are behind you for your action give rise to deep suspicions that you have been bought over. Can you or your generations to come live with it for the rest of your life?If you can, I cannot and I believe many of your supporters too cannot. “Tak Boleh”
Can I trust you again? Never - if you stick to your decision.Whether you have actually been bought over or not ,in my mind, you will always be tainted just like what many feel about Ex YB Lee Lam Thye.
And if you feel that it matters not with you, then you have actually shown your true colours– an opportunist?Taking the people for a ride?In my heart I sincerely hope that you are not,but what can you expect me to believe if you act in such a manner at such a critical moment.
Rise above the pettiness in your party, rise above those who were out to undermine you and show them you are made of sterner stuff.
If you quit, you have actually delivered to those who are against you what they wish to have i.e to get you out.If you wish to quit politics or DAP ,quit only after you have won BG again. Then you would not disappoint all those who have placed their trust and hope on you.If you must quit, then quit in an honourable way but definitely not like this.
Rise above the wickedness of your colleagues. There is no embarassement in changing your mind because it seems everybody is behind you. There is still time to reconsider.
If you stick to your decision, then honestly ,I will have to say to you- “Chilli padi my foot!It is really pagar makan padi”
Please see THE BIG PICTURE.
As one saying (my) goes –“ We may lose our life but let us not lose the kingdom of God-(our ideals)”
“Victory or death”

I have never involve myself in politics, but I have been very disappointed with the Badawi administration. I have voted in almost all the GE for the better person, not party. You are one of those who can work and command respect from your constituency.
However , your quiting at this moment of time is really untimely and a slap to your party. It seems that you have really bad blood for the party by pulling this stunt at the most crucial GE where Malaysians are hoping for the opposition to improve their presence in parliament to prevent those buggers acting like they own this beautiful country and raping it at will.
While telling us to continue voting the DAP, you have also make DAP the laughing stock and putting it in a bad picture at this crucial moment. If you love the party, I dont think you would do anything giving up just because of those speculations. If you care for the rakyat who have regarded you as their chilli padi saviour, please remain in parliament. Please reconsider your decision as it truly has a serious effect of denting the rakyat’s hope for a better government.

Dear Po Kuan,
actually to contest or not is a personal matter for you but because of someone to do that, it is not wise. I was working in a very established company & it was a steep ladder to climb for woman and yes, a lot of men tends to take us for granted and if given half the chance they would try to pull you down. I admire Hilary Clinton, I think she is very talented & I also admire you & your no non sense attitude. To be a real woman is to walk tall & stand tall & to hell with all the petty people. Po Kuan, you are very young & talented, this coupled wioth the fact you are a woman is already a target for a lot of jealousy, not only from men but from women. you have to realise this is a real fact of life. Rise above it and do what is right for you & for the better oif others. I trust that you had taken sometime to cool off and I know it is easy to say than do it. Rise from all the anger & Pettiness & do the right thing…..

国际网上提供给选民的一些思考
This message is to provoke your mind to think whether you want the status quo to be perpetuated. If you want to do your bit to effect a change for the better, think well before you vote at the next general election.
Chances are that the B N will still win but we need to send the proper signal to Pak Lah that enough is enough….
Below is the result of extreme discriminations and marginalization by the BN govt for too many years. Let’s keep circulating this esp before the next election.
And today this is what happened in Malaysia racism.
These lists cover a period of about 49 years since Independence Day in Malaysia (1957):
( 1) Out of all the 5 major banks in Malaysia, only one bank is own by multi-racial, the rest are controlled by Malays. ]
(2) 99% of Petronas (the only one petroleum company) directors are Malays, and the former Prime Minister work as Consultant in Petronas.
(3) 3% of Petronas employees are Chinese.
(4) 99% of 2000 Petronas gasoline stations are owned by Malays.
(5) 100% all contractors working under Petronas projects must be “bumi’s status” (Malay).
(6) 0% of non-Malays staffs are legally required in Malay’s companies. But there must be 30% Malays staffs in Chinese companies and shareholder. Which this mean non-Malays own company needs to give their property to Malays. An d n on-Malays citizen can’t really own their business.
[(7) 5% of all new intake for government police, nurses, army, is non-Malays.
( 2% is the present Chinese staff in Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), drop from 40% in 1960.
(9) 2% is the percentage of non-Malays government servants in Putrajaya ( Malaysia main government office). But Malays make up 98%.
(10) 7% is the percentage of Chinese government servants in the whole government (in 2004), drop from 30% in 1960. Only 2 position for non-Malays in political status.
(11) 95% of government contracts are given to Malays; even it is an open tender. Non-Malays contractors tender the lower price and use better materials can’t get the contract that government given.
(12) 100% all business licenses are controlled by Malay government e.g . Taxi permits, Approved permits, etc. and all the license are given to government officer families.
(13) 80% of the Chinese rice millers in Kedah (north of peninsular Malaysia had to be sold to Malay and controlled by Bernas (Government Org.) since 1980s. Otherwise, life is make difficult for Chinese rice millers.
(14) 100 big companies set up, owned and managed by Chinese Malaysians were taken over by government, and later managed by Malays since 1970’s e.g. UTC, UMBC, MISC, etc. This company now is the sole company.
(15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies (throughout Malaysia, throughout 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other Malay transport companies due to rejection by Malay authority to Chinese application for bus routes and rejection for their application for new buses.
(16) 2 Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor (South of Peninsular Malaysia ) Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and 3 are Chinese in October 2004. Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given.
(17) 0 non-Malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar (city in south peninsular Malaysia ) bus station (November 2004).
(1 8000 billions ringgit is the total amount the government chan neled to Malays pockets through ASB, ASN, MARA, privatization of government agencies like Tabung Haji etc, through NEP over 34 years periods.
(19) 48 Chinese primary schools closed down since 1968 ⤔ 2000
(20) 144 Tamil primary schools closed down since 1968 - 2000
(21) 2637 Malay primary schools built since 1968 - 2000
(22) 2.5% is government budget for Chinese primary schools. Tamil schools got only 1%, Malay schools got 96.5%
(23) While a Chinese parent with RM1000 salary (monthly) cannot get school-text-book-loan, and a Malay parent with RM2000 salary is eligible.

Greetings to you from the other side of the Causeway! Frankly speaking, I was initially dismayed by your decision to quit Batu Gajah but you have given us hope again by choosing to fight on. It seems that you have many admirers among the people of LionLand. Admire you that you chosen to be a beacon of hope in our nation where evil people threathen to engulf it in their darkness. It is a lonely fight and I understand the frustration of it. Nevertheless, you have the support of the Rakyat and our nation still need brave souls like you to stem the tide of darkness that is smothering our Motherland. I salute you and I encourage you to soldier on! For Freedom!!

I’m always using the Pengkalan road to Lahat…but I hope that government can widen the bridge (sungei Kinta) after Station 18…if Tesco completed the traffic will be very bad.

Dear YB,
I’m glad that this time DAP has win and I hope you all keep the promises that you all will do someting better to “Rakyat”. I would like to request to widen the bridge for the Pengkalan (Sg.Kinta) after the Station 18…it will be very heavy traffic after the Tesco starting the business..and I believe everyone staying there will be feel frustrate when using that road…hope the government can take the consideration to widen the bridge as soon as possible. Thanks
