Frontline With You All Again!
Press Statement by Fong Po Kuan on 22.2.2008
Firstly allow me to express my heartfelt apology to all Batu Gajah voters, supporters, members and Party for causing them disappointment, upset and hurt of my announcement not to seek re-election in this coming 12th General Election. Also, I apologise to the Party for the damage caused by my announcement and to the people of Malaysia as well, as it has never been my intention to harm the cause of justice and freedom for which we all cherish. I seek the Party and people’s forgiveness for the mistakes.
It was definitely a very painful decision then. However, I felt very remorseful when I discovered how much a majority of the people cared for me and supported me. Indeed the reflection of their immense support touched me deeply which brought about the thought that I must not fail them.
It made me realize that it was not a wise decision. Thank you for all your comments and encouragement in the blogs, calls, emails and messages.
Besides, this coming election is very crucial to all concerned Malaysians and I promise to remain to shoulder the responsibility to be at the frontline with all Malaysians for the benefits of many generations to come.
Once again I have no better words to convey to all concerned, my gratitude to them for their kind words, unfailing support for me and DAP.
Therefore I wish to continue to represent the voices of Batu Gajah voters and all Malaysians in Parliament. Thank you.

Po Kuan,
My privilege to be acquainted with you. Your unwavering sense of fair play and courage are truly inspiring.
You don’t have to apologise for being human. I felt great pain when you were accused of being bought over by so many.
Wish you all the best in your campaigns.
Comment by cheang — February 22, 2008 @ 9:24 pm
No worries. We the people of Malaysia forgive you. People do tend to make mistakes. Such small mistakes can be forgiven. Don’t mention, we all are behind you and DAP all the way!

Welcome back, YB Fong. Being able to say sorry is an attribute of a good soldier and shows your maturity.
You have hurt many Malaysians but we will forgive you; as the saying goes, it is better to make a mistake and correct it on time rather than be right only when it’s too late.
You need to double up to restore the DAP’s image which is badly beaten.
However, you can be assured that the Rakyat is all behind you and will support you all the way to the poll.
Cheer up and let’s get going.

YB, Whew! What a relief. We welcome you back. My friends and I in Batu Gajah sincerely thank you for coming back to join us to fight for the party. I had occasions to meet you at many ceramahs and get-togethers. I know that DAP is in your blood. I know that you did not mean what you said. I know that you would not betray us. Yes, my prayers are answered. All Malaysians are so happy now. YB, lead us to face the Battle of the Century. We shall walk with you to change history.

Hi YB
I am in Australia and happened to have read news of you decision not seeking re-election. It is just incredible to read the thousands of emails from all the blogs, expressing their heart-felt support for you to stand for re-election! Even the most popular PM of Australia doesn’t get that kind of endorsement from the Australians. So, it is just great that you do what is right by the people, as well as what is right by you. Do Fight a good fight.

The cili padi is back!
In Elephant Stone she winks
Many people will sleep easy
Now Fong Po Kuan changes her mind
Folks you better bring her the best
The battle field ignites
The lights and slogans ring high
The spirits of the opposition
This time it must happen
Don’t give BN the mandate
Don’t let BN take you for rides
Enough for the last 50 years
It is time a new party helms the nation
Let cili padi sweeps the ground
Let the votes go for the future
Don’t believe what BN say
It is time sending them to Timbuktu
Elephant Stone will shine
When cili padi walks in town
The folks will be damn happy
When changes really thrive!

Jb, if I am not mistaken, Po Kuan’s opponent is going to be Cheah Yoke Can, with Pusing roots. In such a small town, he happens to be my wife’s ex-classmate’s nephew. Not to worry, there are many MCA members who voted for DAP before.
Though we cannot be too presumptuous, I predict Po Kuan will win with a much bigger majority.
Comment by K S Ong — February 22, 2008 @ 10:43 pm
Welcome back Po Kuan! All is forgiven as you have shown the true character of a good calibre politician i.e to be able to acknowledge your shortcomings and to say sorry when it matters. All is forgiven and we will be right behind you all the way.
I wrote to you 3 lengthy emails recently and I remember the last time I spent so much time writing was to my girlfriend who is now my wife and life partner. In both cases it is worth the effort.
My family and I are estatic and we wish you well. BTW my heart beat is now back to normal and I will sleep easy tonight. The best news of the year!!!

Your courage and passion for the people is what earned our respect and love for you. Whenever I tell people I am from Batu Gajah, most of them wouldn’t know where in the world is it, but they could still remember the name of the Cili Padi that spoke out the voices of our hearts.
There is no way that you will not win this seat, we are praying to all the deities and God that this time, it is the people that would prevail and make this a better country for all.
My generation is maturing and we are feeling the daily oppresions more than ever, though the war maybe long, but we will be there for you. I sincerely do not wish to leave Malaysia, because this is my homeground and I could still see hope in the likes of you.

PK,
Glad to hear you are back in the running. Never forget the thousands that put the trust in you, as many have never lost hope on you.
Unlike BN politicians with their supporters, we support our representatives without expecting kickbacks and projects and returns in kind.
So, lets kick some BN ass and show them what true Malaysians are, intellegent, bold and strong in principles and determination.
Funnily, if you read some of the blogs of BN MPs, their response on postings by their supporters are clearly of dumbwits and halfwits.
And strangely, they are the ones running the country.
Unbelievable? Believe it.
Comment by SONG — February 24, 2008 @ 4:28 am
GOOD LUCK PK!
NOW YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE LOVE YOU, NOW SHOW US HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THIS COUNTRY!
WE REALLY NEED THE 1/3.
I begining to feel ashame being a malaysian. Malaysia seem to be a circus internationally. Lead by a deadbeat, assisted by a halfwit and runned by dumbwits.
HELP US PUT BACK THE PRIDE BEING MALAYSIAN…..

In spite of all the disappointment caused by your announcement that you are not standing for election, there is one silver lining.
I understand that even the DPM has given you the accolade of being an MP of caliber!
That’s well deserved praise!
Let me say this - every candidate in the DAP has greater integrity than all those in the BN combined.
How else can they survive when all they have is their guts and a sense of service?
Each of you is worth your weight in gold!

Dear YB Fong,
You have made me so happy, Malaysia needs leaders like you !!!. Do you know, I was so upset when you made the decision not to recontest, I actually prayed in Church that you reconsider and contest. Thank God, my prayers have been answered. As you said, let’s Deny BN a 2/3 majority and my Vote (including my wife and others that I can convince) will be for the Opposition. Once again Thank You So Much

Glad that YB Po Kuan is back.
We need a very strong opposition in the Parliament to act
act as a check & balance mechanism. Always go for opposition.

Dear Poh Kuan,
You are indeed the cili padi to the BN, keep on fighting and tell the stupid BN MPs who are brainless, think & speak from their asses to buck off. Malaysia need educated & high mentality people to sit in the Parliment, not jokers from the hutan.
Need not be apologetic. Just bear in mind that you not only gain support from Batu Gajah but all over the country.
Tough times don’t last, tough people do!

My 2008 Election Wish:
May Po Kuan & her fellow opposition candidates,
1st : Win the Election & deny BN 2/3 in parliament
2nd : Strenghten opposition alliances, establish a strong alternative to BN. Need an opposition alliance with depth, vision, calibre, and economy stability.
3rd: Build Malaysia a strong nation for all proud Malaysian.

“if already say quit just quit la… no self confidence at all. how to lead?” - momo
I take exception to your remark above!
I think that FPK was under pressure to relocate to another location.
This may seem to be okay because politicians are subject to such movements. I believe that other DAP politicians have also resigned due to this.
Moving candidates to unfamiliar locations is both good and bad since a good candidate can win in a new location which otherwise would be lost if a newbie is posted.
On the other hand, the constituents served by the incumbent may be displeased because they lost the services of a capable MP.
I think that in the present case, where the expectations of the voters are very intent on booting out as many BN candidates as possible, retaining the incumbent in the same constituency is important as the chances of wining are very high.
Remember, the adage, “A bird in hand is worth two in the bush?”
So, FPK, soldier on.
You have my 110% support!!
