Parliament: Datuk Seri Najib on National Service Training

The emergency motion on National Service Training Programme which I submitted was rejected by the Speaker last Monday.

Just now, the Deputy Prime Minister was here to reply to question raised related to Defence Ministry. I took the opportunity to ask him some questions. So did Kit Siang.

The DPM mentioned about his sadness whenever any untowards incident happened to the trainee and concluded with the importance to have the Programme. Some of the points I could recall are as follow:- (more…)

On National Service Training Programme

This is a letter emailed to me by Dr KK Wong.

The number of deaths and serious injuries amongst NS trainees have been increasing. This is a warning sign that things are not going the right way for the programme.

Sadly, I am afraid that the number of deaths and injuries will keep increasing for the following reasons. Firstly, we are suddenly subjecting a group of youngsters who may not be used to much physical activities to perform rather strenuous exercises for which their bodies have not been accustomed to. To put it bluntly, many of these NS Trainees may not be fit. Being a marathon runner myself, I know that it takes time to build up one’s fitness. Parliament: Any latest development on Nurin, Sharlinie and Asmawi?

Please read the last paragraph of the reply.

I do agree that we have roles to play to ensure a safe environment exists. We can explain to the minor but how much will they understand?

They were playing at the ground play ( Sharlinie) or at a nearby pasar malam which was 500 meter away from the home ( Nurin) and then, gone missing. CCTV can be installed in these areas?

When I was young, I cycled with my cousins to every corner of the village from morning till evening. My grandmother never fear for my safety.

Recently, once I was in the washroom of a mall when a mother shouted at the young son, trying to get him to wait for her in the female washroom. The young son refused. The mother then said,” if not you will be kidnapped.” This scenario, I believe is common.

How long do we need to live in fear? I do not even feel safe at home.

Below is the question and reply:-

(more…)
