Updated: Ministers Allowance Cut
I was watching the 7 pm news on NTV 7 and heard the report about the cut of 10 percent allowance of Ministers. I did write in my earlier posting about the need of the PM and Ministers to cut their own allowances and other measures “for the best interest of the people” as a result of the increase of fuel.
Here in Malaysiakini provides the details.
Is it 10% entertainment allowance cut or 10% cut of the allowance of Ministers? I am interested in the figure it involves.
According to S. 6(1) Akta Parlimen (Saraan) 1990 it provides as follows:-
(1) Saraan bagi Anggota Pentadbiran hendaklah berupa:-
(a) bagi Perdana Menteri, gaji bulanan sebanyak dua puluh dua ribu lapan ratus dua puluh enam ringgit dan enam puluh lima sen;
(b) bagi Timbalan Perdana Menteri, gaji bulanan sebanyak lapan belas ribu satu ratus enam puluh lapan ringgit dan lima belas sen.
(c) bagi Menteri, gaji bulanan sebanyak empat belas ribu sembilan ratus tujuh ringgit dan dua puluh sen;
If it is 10% of the allowance, the figure is about RM 1,500 - RM2,200 cut each.
(I am not sure if they are getting allowance as Ahli Dewan Rakyat in addition to the above. I need to confirm)- Is confirm that Minister who is also a member of the Dewan Rakyat will also receive the monthly allowance of MP of RM6,508.59. I did not realise that their entertainment allowance is so much more than their month MPship allowance.
The chart stated in Malaysiakini, the entertainment allowance of PM - RM 18, 865, DPM-RM 15,015 and Minister-RM 12,320.
Also, what is the budget for the holidays before and after this announcement.
No more briefing for MPs at 5 stars hotel too?
It is the result of the pressure applied by the people to make the BN leadership to listen to the people. It is only the beginning. Let us keep the pressure going.
With the Federal government tightening the budget for the states under Pakatan Rakyat and the irresponsible move to increase the fuel without putting the measures in place earlier and improper management of the assets of the country by BN, I also hope states under Pakatan Rakyat can be with the people and have some measures for example, cut down petrol consumption (usage is unlimited for vehicles of Excos) and freeze the annual travel allowance of Excos (as provided by the previous BN government of the states) or other measures that can save the tax payers money without affecting the performance of their duties.
