Record of the Fuel Increase
I was going through some of the Parliamentary documents and found this piece. I would like to share with you. When the subsidy has been reduced with the increase of the fuel price for the consumer, where has the money gone to?
A sudden sharp increase of 78 cent is because of political reason, I believe. The BN wanted the votes of the people and decided not to increase the fuel price earlier, the election year for Pak Lah.
When the global crude oil prices dropped a little and we questioned in Parliament if our consumer would be getting a lower price fuel, we were told, ” unstable yet the global crude oil price”
Here is the question I raised in Parliament on 27.3.2007 and replied :-
Tahun- Petrol - Diesel - LPG
2000 - 10 - 5 - 10
2002 - 3 - 4 - 3
2003 - 2 - 2 - 2
2004 - 7 - 7 - 7
2005 - 20 - 22 - 5
2006 - 30 - 30 - 30
Harga purata minyak mentah pada tahun-tahun berkenaan adalah seperti berikut:
Tahun Harga Purata(USD/Barrel)
2000 - 28.14
2002 - 25.45
2003 - 28.84
2004 - 38.46
2005 - 56.60
2006 - 66.02

YB,
I wonder as PM announced that 10% cut on allowance was any effect to fuel hike.
Wether the allowance being used or not, they still collect the money. They may not even spend for entertaiment. Who are they going to entertaint???
Anyone meet them, the visitor will spend or their aides will spend and charged to ministries or department expenses. So all allowances is going to their pocket!!!!meehh?.
Now what about other allowances such as housing, etc plus chairman’s allowances. They collect huge some of our taxpayers money and we people have to pay for them!!!!.
They not even paid tax????
I will “haram” my money being taken by them till I die.

Car Duty vs Fuel Subsidy, Where Had The Car Duty Gone To?

An estimated of RM 162 billions had been collected over the past 22 years. Actual figures could be much higher..
By A concern citizen
Recent fuel hike had sparked anger across the country asking Petronas account to be made available for public scrutiny to justify why the government cannot continue to subsidy the fuel. May be all these while, Petronas may not be footing 100% of the fuel bill, is the car owners had paid in advance for fuel subsidy in form of import and excise duties for both local and foreign mad vehicles, as suggested by one article published in the Star recently, and republished by Malaysia Today.
Following up on this topic, I had done a little research myself, and may be others had already done it but did not get highlighted in a wider angle. I had visited the website of Malaysia Automotive Association to get the statistic of total vehicle sale from 1986 till 2007, to get a broad idea of estimated excise and import duties might have been collected by the government since the inception of Proton, as the import duties were imposed for the excuse of protecting our new start up that suppose to make our nation pride in years to come. Well, Proton is not an issue for our discussion here, so we will not talk about it’s success or failure and the failure cost to the rakyat. Let’s us guestimate how much we had contributed to the government coffers since 1986.
Total vehicle sales since 1986 amounted to 6,264,910 units, both passengers and commercial vehicles included. (Source: http://www.maa.org.my/info_summary.htm). Assuming the ratio of 60% of total vehicles being locally produced, and rest of them are being imported. Also assuming average duty collected from local car is RM 10K each, and RM 50K for imported vehicles. Please note that I had made broad assumption, as the actual figure was never reported by the government in their annual budget and accounts.
An estimated of RM 162 billions had been collected over the past 22 years. Actual figures could be much higher as import tax was relatively high in the 90s before we signed the ASEAN free trade agreement. Where had the money gone? How much fuel subsidy had been given by the government on fuel after being offset by the car duties?
Such amount can be used to build a comprehensive rail network comparable to Japan and Europe, where almost all major cities are connected by rails. An efficient metro networks can also be build in Klang Valley comparable to London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
I hope the MP will continue to ask for actual figures in the Parliament and show to the rakyat that the car duty and Petronas proceed had been used in an accountable way.

time to wake up from our dreams , for 50 donkey yrs majority malaysians had chosen bn , for 50 yrs wat had rakyat benefitted from ? during election time some voters commented “well since i had voted for oppostion , i’m expecting to see results after their 1 terms ends” which personally i felt its an unfair statement to the opposition….my question is if voters could give bn the mandate for the past 50 yrs to lead tis country why can’t voters give say at least 2-3 terms to oppostion to clear up the mess left behind by the previous admin???? hope tis will knock some sense to some voter’s rigid mindset….as the saying goes “rome was not built in a single day”
spike in oil price do have a huge impact on overall economy…causes prices of almost everything to go up significantly….but someday we do have to learn to live with out oil subsidy as subsidy distorts the economy…..we should learn to adjust our lifestyle to cope with these rises in prices…..
petronas should be more transparent with its financial health to the rakyat…..esp to the ppl of east malaysians & ppl of trengganu as only these 3 states had oil…..

50 donkey yrs ppl had blindly given bn their mandate , look at today’s malaysia , just to name a few
“high cost of living” , “high crime rate” , “phanton Voters” , “Illegal Immigrants” , “bailing out & protecting ailing companies” eg: proton , mas & not forgetting “wasting public funds building some white elephant” etc etc, …..so for past fifty yrs wat had rakyat benefited from tis bn ? where had our profits derived from petroleum gone to ? we ppl of east malaysians & trengganu demand to know as we are the only 3 states tat produces oil….yes oil had huge impact on overall economy , subsidies distorts the economy which i agree with jeff ooi….we just have to adjust our livestyle to cope with rising cost of everything……….
if ppl can afford to buy a car they would have the ability to bear high fuel costs ,no matter wat the capacity of their car is….i stress the spike in fuel prices is caused by speculators as oil is a tradable commodity in the futures market….

Never Pump full tank.
You will carry it around, heavy car use more petrol
when the tank is full, if you keep pressing to fill it up.. part of the petrol will flow back through safety valve…
