Mooncake Festival
We, in Malaysia, celebrate many festivals in a year. Which one do you like best?
I have always like mooncake festival. It is a festival which brings me back sweet memories.
Why mooncake festival? The paper lantern and mooncake, though, I can’t eat much.
My sisters and I used to compete with our neighbours in lighting up candles at the balcony. The moment the wind blown off the candles, we would as quick as possible light them up again. It was a “competition” to ensure our spot was the brightest and we were having more candles! How chidlish, but it left with me some good “young days”.
Thereafter, my family moved to this present neighbourhood. As it was a new neighbourhood, not many houses were occupied. The two row of houses organised a mooncake festivals and guess what? I was self-appointed the “tai kwai tao” (head)among the children. I taught the children how to make lantern using paper plates and color papers. Also, played some games. Now, they are all grown up. It was about 22 years ago.
When I was in my university days, I used to put into envelopes the smallest sized paper lantern with a short message and post them to friends. It was also through the said lanterns and candles I started conversation with 2 foreign friends in my university. We ended up good friends.
Last weekend, I spent a quiet evening with my husband, lighting up lanterns and candles at the porch of his house while stars were shining up above.
I did invite my next door neighbour’s daughter to join me but she refused.
However, the opposite neighbours who were having some friends gathering at his porch, stared at both of us. They must me wondering what were the two grown up adults doing with the lanterns and candles?
It was only my attachment to the beautiful lights and colors of the lanterns. Just loved it and would like to share with you. Happy Mooncake Festival to All of You!

Those who can still remember any ancient history
Will recall that mooncake has an interesting story
Of how a subdued nation managed to regain its glory
By getting the right inspiring message to all and sundry

Yes YB, Lantern Festival is full of memories. Days leading to the actual date is full of fun lighting candles at the porch and having those paper lanterns were fun.
Unfortunately, lantern festival almost always coincide with my school final exams, year in year out. My parents would only allow us (my brother and sisters) a quick rendevous before urshering us back into the house to revise our school work.
Guess what, both my children (7 & 11) studying at St.Michael’s Ipoh, my alma mater, continues the legacy of having his school exams during the lantern festival. Hahaha.
See, its full of memories when I reflect back.
Happy Lantern festival to you and your hubby and don’t let the paper lantern catch fire……………hahaha………

I am a Johorean. I do not know whether you celebrated your Lantern Festival in Johor last year. If the neighbour girl who refused to join you for lanterns and candles lighting up last year was from Johor, then I would like to invite you to come to Johor much more often so that Johoreans could get much more familiar with your husband and you.
Johor is a new frontier yet to be explored and conquered by DAP. It is a much richer state than Penang and Perak. DAP leaders should be able to enjoy much more sweet holidays if the Johor State Government is to revert to the control of Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election. This is the best aspiration some underprivileged Johoreans are dreaming for. Please do remember to open up a new political frontier for DAP in Johor.
Happy Mooncake Festival!

This year Mid-autumn festival will be remembered…
The delicious Mooncakes has had it role in toppling the Mongolian regime of the Yuen Dynasty.
Now, the rakyat wanted to see the toppling of the hopeless BN government.
